Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute offers a range of resources to support students, faculty, and researchers interested in quantum computing. Members of the RPI community can request access to IBM Quantum System One—located on campus—providing hands-on experience with cutting-edge quantum technology. Support is available through the Quantum Enablement and Development (QED) team, which offers consulting, software evaluation, and development tools for both coursework and research. Additional engagement opportunities include the Quantum Computing Users’ Group, which connects users through events and collaboration, and the student-led Quantum Computing Club, open to all students and active on Discord.

The Center for Computational Innovations (CCI) at Rensselaer supports next-generation research through high-performance computing and advanced data analytics. Serving students, faculty, and researchers across disciplines, CCI also partners with major industry leaders such as IBM, Boeing, GlobalFoundries, Intel, and Xerox. At the heart of the center is AiMOS, a powerful eight-petaflop IBM POWER9 supercomputer designed to accelerate artificial intelligence research and applications.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is a founding member of Empire AI, a $400 million public-private consortium launched by New York State to advance artificial intelligence research and development. As part of this initiative, RPI has pledged a $25 million investment to help establish a new AI center in Upstate New York, working alongside fellow research institutions and industry partners to drive innovation, promote responsible AI, and expand educational and economic opportunities across the region.

Rensselaer’s Research IT Data & Compliance team supports faculty and researchers in meeting data security, privacy, and regulatory requirements. Services include data classification guidance, secure storage solutions, and compliance consulting to ensure research aligns with federal, state, and institutional policies.

Research Computing Support at RPI provides researchers with access to advanced computing infrastructure and technical expertise. The team assists with high-performance computing, software optimization, and system access to help accelerate discovery across disciplines.
